May is Art Month
Celebrating 10 Years
Capilano Mall is extremely proud to be celebrating 10 years of May is Art Month; an expansive display of visual and performance arts on the North Shore. Art Month features local student and professional artists and showcases a wide variety of artistic styles and mediums throughout Capilano Mall during the month of May. We encourage you to visit the various performance and exhibition sites to help support the outstanding local artists in our community!

The North Vancouver Arts Council presents a juried exhibition showcasing a series of works created by local artists. The Gallery will be open during mall hours beginning May 2 – 14 in unit 87 (next to Advanced Travel). All pieces on display will be available for purchase.

The North Vancouver School District brings an exhibition of outstanding art from North Vancouver public schools May 16 – 31 throughout Fashion Wing (proudly organized by the North Vancouver Art Teachers Association and Capilano Mall).
Opening night reception will be held on Thursday, May 16th at 6:30pm in Grand Court.

Join us for free crafts for kids with Maureen Coles and Natalia Mayor. May 5, 12, 19 from 1pm – 4pm in Grand Court.

Once On This Island Jr.

Capilano Mall will be home to a “pop up” theatre May 24 – 26 in unit 87 to feature the musical production of Broadway’s Once On This Island produced by URP Event Production and Creative Services. This musical will be performed by some of the North Shore's finest young talent including many students from Capilano University's highly respected Musical Theatre Program.
Once On This Island is a Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale, The Little Mermaid that garnered eight Tony nominations for its Broadway run. Told entirely in song, it is the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred, and death.

Partial proceeds of ticket sales will directly support students wishing to further their education in performance arts.
